Biography: source: http://www.thebharat.com

When it comes to the term "moviestar" Rekha spells it all, not just in her professional but in her personal life as well. The glamour goddess might look like she has it all today but her past has been turbulent and trying.

The love child of Tamil superstar Gemini Ganeshan and actress Pushpavalli, Rekha's is the story of the ultimate make-over. It's difficult to imagine the perfectly turned out, style icon of today as a plump, dark teenager with a 33 inch waistline, playing heroine to Navin Nischol in 'Saawan Bhadon'.

Ignorant of the ways of the industry, with no Godfather as guiding light, Rekha got roles of a heroine but also made mistakes along the way. Throughout the Seventies, she remained an insignificant entity in Bollywood with nothing but moderate success to her credit.

But the naive South Indian girl was definitely a smart one as well. Post mid-Seventies, Rekha chiselled herself to perfection with the help of Yoga and the art of great make-up and underwent a complete transformation, both physically and mentally. It was at this stage that Amitabh Bachchan entered her personal and professional life and it meant a winning combo for directors on screen and for the gossipmongers off it. Their hits together like 'Mukaddar Ka Sikandar', 'Mr. Natwarlal', 'Khoon Paseena' and 'Silsila' made Amit-Rekha one of the most legendary pairs on the Hindi screen. Rekha, the image might've been established but Rekha the actress only came on her own with films like 'Ghar', 'Khoobsurat' and 'Umraojaan'. She played the famous courtesan Umraojaan Ada in Muzaffar Ali's elaborate film and gave the character of the courtesan in Bollywood a totally different meaning. This Rekha was an actress who could talk with her eyes! The mid Eighties though were bad times for her. She had little more chance than to do supporting roles in films like 'Vijeta', 'Zameen Aasman' etc.

She bounced back brilliantly with Rakesh Roshan's 'Khoon Bhari Maang' in 1988. It was the typical revenge saga but Rekha managed to bring her touch of class to it. Rekha became the first actress to have a successful career in her 30s! She had major hits in the 90s with 'Phool Bane Angaarey', turned heads as she played the temptress in 'Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi', was the lady who knows how to love in Mira Nair's 'Kamasutra' and gave a fine performance as a simple housewife lured to prostitution in Basu Bhattacharya's 'Aastha'.

Rekha is an actress worth emulating. After traversing Bollywood’s big route to stardom for long, the radiant Rekha has now graduated into playing motherly roles.

In the forthcoming TIPS project, Rekha is playing mother to the dimpled damsel Preity Zinta. The film tentatively titled Yeh Hain Mohabbat will be directed by none other than Kundan Shah, the man with the Midas touch.

The film, which has Arjun Rampal in the male lead, is women-oriented with ample footage reserved for Rekha. She gets enough opportunity to show her histrionic skills as the director explores the changing relationship between a possessive mother and her daughter who wants to grow out of her mother’s shadow.

She loves children and animals. Today's Rekha seems content and lives life on her terms. Always gorgeously dressed, mostly in Kanjeevarams, she still has the presence to pale a roomful of young girls when she enters. For Rekha, is not just another Bollywood actress. She epitomises glamour and of course the most famous image that Bollywood has ever had.

Name Analysis: Source - http://www.kabalarians.com
Your first name of Rekha has given you a rather quiet, reserved, serious, studious nature. You have sensitivity and appreciation for the finer and deeper things of life, the beauties of nature, music, art, and literature. The people who mean the most to you are those who can offer you intellectual companionship. It is only when you are among those who understand your deeper nature that you can really be yourself. The experience of having your remarks taken lightly or belittled, particularly during the early years of your life, has caused you to keep your thoughts and feelings to yourself. You do not express yourself spontaneously when conversing with others; hence other people may often regard you as being aloof, and even unfriendly. Your difficulty in putting your deeper thoughts and feelings into words can lead to problems in more intimate associations. This name has caused you to live much within yourself. You are rather easily hurt or offended. At such times you can withdraw into a mood, and may not even speak to others. Aside from these points, this name contains many fine qualities. You are a thoughtful, analytical person, and you know your own mind, even though you may not speak it. You are very conscientious and competent in all that you do. You take seriously any responsibilities that you have--in the home, in the community, or at the job. Worry and mental depression could be problems in your life. Physically, any weaknesses in your health would center in the heart, lungs, or bronchial organs.

"I have had a fair share of link-ups-even as a child. A newspaper even went to the extent of saying that I was married to Sanjay Dutt. The fact is, I would baby-sit him when he was five. You could say my co-star and I look good together, but here, they directly link me to the co-star."
