My KLR Exeperience
It's been nearly 4 years and 35,000 miles since I bought my A-15 and it has been quite a ride.  I have been to so many beautiful places that I never even knew existed and many of them are within 2 hours of my home.  I often pour over maps looking for the thinnest of lines to explore and am rewarded with single lane dirt roads that weave a story about railroad beds or wagon roads of a time past.  I've rolled my KLR into half a dozen abandoned mining camps, explored rustic cabins, and have been to the top of many spectacular peaks.    The KLR is able to roll over the rocky trails, the freeway and everything in between.  I have been on several muliti-day rides with a full compliment of camping gear often seeking out the most obscure dirt roads with little if any traffic or even signs of civilization.

My first impression of the KLR was a bit intimidating simply because of its size.  This was the largest MC I had owned and it commands respect especially when loaded with over 6 gallons of fuel.  Over time I have come to appreciate its wide power band, liquid cooling system, great handling and large fuel tank.  Of course the bike still commands respect, as it's built big enough for the freeway yet just small enough for the trails.

Upgrades to my KLR include an aluminum bash plate, radiator/overflow guard, master cylinder guard, rear rack and Ortleib saddlebags, sealed battery, handle bar risers, and tank bag.  My tire choice is the GP-110 for its great high mileage road manners and its off road tractor-like traction at trail speeds.  I also appreciate the ability to do all the needed maintenance myself, saving money while learning about my machine.  I have also upgraded parts of the counterbalancer system after reports of failures and was pleased with how easy and inexpensive this fix was.  Having this bike in production for so many years provides a wealth of information and aftermarket parts from owners and vendors alike.

In the city the KLR will get me  to my destination efficiently regardless of traffic, construction or even a local disaster while hauling a passenger or groceries.  On the freeway the KLR can stay with traffic and is ever ready to take the next off-ramp and explore that isolated canyon all at over 50 mpg.

I wish I had bought this bike earlier and I hope and I continue riding the KLR for some time to come.

If you have a KLR you know exactly what I am writing about.  If you are interested in a dual sport motorcycle then look into the KLR.  In my opinion it's far and away the best value out there for a motorcycle today.
