(Flashback Miss Parker)

Miss Parker pulled up to the Department of Motor Vehicles and smiled at the passenger in the seat next to her. Sydney ran his hand through his hair.

‘She’ll never pass if she drives like that.’ He said to himself smiling back at her.

“So do you think I'm ready?” She asked parking the black sedan.

“Just remember the pedestrian has the right of way at all times. Turn your blinker on, look, then pull out. Park closer to the curve and you’ll do fine.” He told her.

“Got it.” She said. There was a tap on Sydney’s door. He rolled down the window.

“May I help you?” Sydney asked.

“I'm the driving instructor.” He said.

“Oh” Sydney opened the door and stepped out of the car looking at the older man.

“Good luck.” He said to Miss Parker.

“Thanks” They both replied. Sydney shook his head then walked into the building to wait for Miss Parker to come back.

An hour later Miss Parker stopped at the red light across from the DMV after her best drive yet and following Sydney’s advise she was sure she passed. The light turned green and she quickly looked to see if anyone was still in the crosswalk. After seeing no one she pulled into the intersection and saw the car at her side just before it hit.

Her world went dark.

"So Jarod is a driving instructor. I pity his students." Miss Parker said walking out of the DMV in Kingston Texas.

(Flashback)

Miss Parker woke in a hospital bed with pain all over.

“So did I pass?” She asked Sydney.

“No one saw the accident, but you and the other guy. The instructor said he didn’t see the other car. They said you’ll have to take the test again because the other driver said it was your falt. A Mr. Broots” Sydney said

****************************

“They said Jarod’s last student should be back any time now.” Broots said walking out and joining Miss Parker and Sydney.

“Good” Miss Parker said hoping to see Jarod pale white. A car pulled to the curve and a young teen boy jumped out smiling.

“I passed!” He yelled. He walked over to Sydney.

“Are you Sydney?” He asked

“Yes” Sydney answered.

“Here Jarod wanted you to have this.” He said handing him a red notebook. Sydney opened it and looked at the first article. “DMV instructor jailed after negative drug test.” Sydney flipped to the next article. “Driving instructor found innocent.”

“Well we missed him again.” Sydney said passing the red notebook to Miss Parker.

“Broots I didn’t pass my first drive test. Do you know why?” Miss Parker asked.

“No” He said

“You blamed me for the accident.” She said.

“Accident?” He asked.

“Yes” She said.

“Miss Parker I've never been in an accident while being the driver.” He said confused.

“Right” She said raising an eyebrow at him.

“No really.” He answered.

“Then who was that?” She asked Sydney.

“A Mr Broots, but not our Broots.” Sydney answered.

“All this time I thought it was you.” She said looking at Broots. He shrugged.

They all walked back to the car and Miss Parker jumped into the drivers seat. She drove to the airport going the speed limit all the way.
