Chapter Three Part One: School's A Drag

++++++++++

Kaneda laid on his bed staring at the ceiling. Today was a very interesting day to say the least. Appearing out of no where, Ranko became his temporary fiancee. At first he had thought that she was like those other girls but he soon found out that she was quite the opposite.

His mind wandering to what had happened earlier made him wince in pain. Being hit by his family and the Saotomes at the same time was not a thing he wanted to experience again. Who would have known that his sister KASUMI would have actually punished him? Before the worst she had given him and Nabiki was a slightly stern look.

On the other hand, he had to consider himself lucky compared to the TALK Ranko had with her father.

*Flashback*

"Otousan." Genma winced when he heard Ranko call him coldly. Ranko stood up slowly from where she sat never taking her cold blue eyes off of her father. "We need to TALK." Genma gulped as he stepped outside.

Ranko stood next to the koi pond and flipped her long pigtail back glancing at her father. She gave a slight smile seeing her father wince when he met her eyes.

"How about we SPAR while we talk, huh?" Genma had no choice but to nod slowly. "Maybe some practice with my katana would be good, don't you think?"

Genma gulped nervously, silent. She unsheathed her katana taking pleasure in seeing her father eyeing it wary. Figuring that she had enough toying with her father she reshealthed it.

"Nevermind, I'll go easy on you."

Ranko stood in a relaxed stance after putting her katana away. Then suddenly Ranko blurred as she went from a relaxed posture to an attack position. "Gee, FATHER. Why didn't you tell me before about that engagement, huh?"

Genma dodged frantically as Ranko attacked him faster than the eye could see. He glanced at his daughter nervously and stammered. "U-um.. I didn't think it was i-important."

Ranko continued to slash at her father pressing her attack as he was forced back. Genma saw that he was at the edge of the koi pond and leaped into the air somersaulting behind the calm Ranko.

They stood several feet from each other, standing there looking at each other. Then in unison they charged past each other. Ranko held her arm slightly above her head as if to block and spun in the air. She seemed like a miniature tornado, spinning past Genma and stopping abruptly.

She stood with her arm raised frozen as if she was a statue. Genma stood on the opposite side of his daughter, his face neutral in concentration, also unmoving.

Sometime between the moment the two Saotomes had gone out to the yard, the Tendos had gathered at the table and watched the fight. They were confused at what was happening since it didn't seem as if their odd actions had caused anything.

A moment later Ranko straightened up and walked inside the house. Before she walked up to her room she growled softly. "Not important?! Baka."

The Tendos stared at the retreating Ranko as the spar was seemingly over. Then, they turned towards Genma and all gasped in shock.

His gi fell apart abruptly, falling to the ground in even shreds. Genma fell over holding his stomach in pain as he breathed heavily.

*End Flashback*

Kaneda sighed and continued to stare at the ceiling thinking about how everything seemed so unreal. Moments later he dozed off into a deep sleep.

"School?" Ranko stared at her father.

Genma nodded solemnly. "Yes, school. You must attend school with Kaneda so that you may get to know him better. Don't try to get out of it Ranko. You're going no matter what you say."

She threw a mini mallet at her father in irritation. "Who said that I was trying to get out of it? I WANT to go to school! So don't be trying any of those 'I'm the boss and know what's good for you' rubbish!"

Genma flinched as she leveled him a glare. He meekly handed to her the book bag in his hands. "Here."

Ranko's eyes softened for a moment but then she quickly hid it. She wasn't letting her father off that easily! Not after what he said yesterday. Not after he callously talked about her not knowing where Okaasan was.

She took the book bag out of his hands and turned around. She didn't want to look at him. The sound of footsteps going down the stairs caught her attention as she glanced towards the stairs.

+++++++++

He blinked as he stared at the ceiling. Yawning slightly he got out of his bed. He rubbed his eyes and got his uniform. He walked into the bathroom and changed his clothes. After getting his book bag he walked down the stairs. His eyes wandered and stopped at the redhead before him. So it wasn't a dream he thought.

Now that he looked at her again, his 'fiancee' was quite cute. More than cute. She was pretty but that didn't mean that he liked her. Nope. Not one bit.

Still, he added silently. It wouldn't be proper to ignore her. Smiling slightly he said, "Morning, Ranko."

Ranko smiled back. "Morning, Kaneda."

++++++++++

After they ate breakfast, which was quite good (Wow, this is very good Kasumi!), Kaneda, Ranko, and Nabiki got up to leave for school.

Nabiki smiled slyly as she got out of the house. "Kaneda, why don't you walk your fiancee to school since she doesn't know the way. I'll go ahead to do some 'business.'" With that she sped up leaving behind the two 'lovebirds.'

Kaneda frowned. "Not fair!" He glanced at Ranko. She was wearing a dark blue tank top and khakis, definitely not the Furinkan High's uniform. "Why aren't you wearing the school's uniform?"

"Maybe because I just got here and I don't have one!" She turned her head and started walking in the direction Nabiki went.

"Oh." Kaneda said embarrassed.

++++++++++

As they neared the school, Kaneda sighed waiting for the inevitable. Ranko blinked confused as Kaneda started growling something over and over again under his breath.

She walked closer to him and found out what he was saying.

"BakabakabakabakabakabakabakabakabakabakabakabakabakaBAKABAKABAKABAKABAKA!"

Baka? She thought. She felt a large amount of negative energy and whirled around to face it. "What the..?"

In front of the school was a large mob of boys all wearing various athletic equipment. There were hockey players, football, soccer, kendo, and sumo? They were all readying whatever weapon they had in their hands as if waiting to attack someone. Who..? She glanced at Kaneda and back at the mob. Oh..him!

Kaneda turned to Ranko as he gave his book bag to her. "Watch this for me and stay out of my way." He charged towards the mob leaving behind a confused and rapidly growing angry Ranko.

Stay out of my way? What am I? Why that-that-Jerk! Despite her thoughts she had complied to Kaneda's orders, as much as she didn't want to follow, her code of honor wouldn't allow it.

It was not proper to interfere with another person's fight. She glanced at the big mob getting ready to fight the lonesome Kaneda. It wasn't right, even if it was unfair.

Sighing she leaned back against the wall of the school gates. She frowned slightly as Kaneda went through the mob, knocking boys left and right unconscious.

The attack must have been daily since Kaneda was going through it with ease. The problem with that however was that it was slowly deteriorating his abilities. It was making him telegraph his attacks. She wondered what brought this on.

She spotted one boy near the school doors that wasn't attacking Kaneda. He was dressed in a kendo outfit and had a bokken in his hands. She could feel that he was going to attack Kaneda sooner or later.

The boy seemed skilled with the bokken but he was not strong enough to be any trouble to her. She sighed inwardly. Was there anyone here who could give her a good workout? Even baka-panda wasn't good enough. She sighed again. The perils a martial artist must go through.

Several minutes later Kaneda brushed off the dirt on his uniform as the last idiot fell unconscious. "Your turn, Kuno."

The boy, Kuno, had a condescending look on his face that Ranko did not like. What he said next made her gag.

"You cur, Tendo. I shall defeat you for daring to go against my words. Then I shall date the goddesses of Furinkan High. I will defeat you for I am the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High!" He raised his bokken high in front of him and amazingly enough, the clouds darkened and thunder crashed behind him.

Kaneda snorted and the two started exchanging blows.

"Ranko!"

She turned her head towards the source of the voice and saw Nabiki standing by an open window waving at her. "Yeah?"

"Just come inside. Kaneda can handle it."

"Oh." She looked at her 'fiancé' and shrugged. She turned to walk past the fighting boys and enter the school. Unfortunately she didn't make it.

Kuno saw a red flash to his left and paused in his fighting to see what it was. What met his eyes was a fiery haired goddess walking towards him (although in actuality she was trying to avoid walking near him to enter the school.)

Kaneda stared confused as Kuno stopped attacking. "What..?" He found out what Kuno was staring at and sighed. "Oh, man.."

Ranko stopped walking as a wooden bokken was thrust in front of her. She glanced at the taller boy irritated. "What do you want?"

"Pigtailed goddess! I, the rising star of the Kendo world, Blue Thunder of Furinkan High, Tatewaki Kuno, age seventeen, have come for thee! We shall date!"

"Who ever said that I wanted to date with you?" Kuno did not look surprise and practically ignored what she said. "Grr..if you have half a brain then you can at least call me by my name. It's Ranko, Saotome Ranko."

"So the goddess's name is Ranko. It's perfect. Let us embrace our love." Kuno rushed in his arms open to snatch her up in a hug.

"BACK OFF!"

Ranko blinked as a fist impacted with the pompous kendo boy's face. Somehow Kaneda had managed to beat him before she did.

He continued to beat up the older boy and only stopped when Kuno slumped to the floor unconscious.

"I could have handled that you know." She stated, slightly irritated.

"Yeah, well I couldn't stand him..I was itching for a fight!" He tried hard to cover up his slip. Luckily, Ranko didn't notice.

The final bell rang and Kaneda groaned.

++++++++

"This is all your fault you know." Kaneda grumbled loudly as he held the two buckets of water in his hand.

"Is not. It's Kuno's fault, not mine." Ranko didn't know what bugged Kaneda so much about their 'punishment.' It was really nothing. Nothing compared to what she did usually. These buckets were a bit small.

"Yeah, well...I could have gotten here on time if it weren't for you. I always get to class on time." He retorted, not wanting to admit that it wasn't her fault.

"Are you saying it's my fault for Kuno trying to molest me?" She stared incredulous at the boy next to her. She couldn't believe it. And I thought that he was kind of nice too, she thought angrily.

"Uh..no!" Kaneda tried to think of a comeback. "I'm not saying that so stop putting words in my mouth you tomboy!" There, he thought, that should do it.

Oh that did it all right. "You..you..YOU JERK!" That totally pissed Ranko off.

Seconds after her shout Kaneda was drenched wet with a bucket planted in his face.

He slumped to the floor. Before drifting off to unconsciousness he uttered, "Uncute tomboy.."

++++++++

Nabiki watched slightly amused as Kasumi nursed her brother's wounds. Smirking she commented, "I see that you didn't have a fun day with Ranko then."

"Shaddup." He growled.
