| It's not really at the age of 17 when I started getting publicity and entered the entertainment circle. Actually, when I was 2 years old, I became a 'little commercial model'. Many came up to my home, approaching me to promote their goods. Even palm readers and fortunetellers often said that I lead a prosperous life. My features are well spaced and in future, I would be very wealthy, etc. After that, many people who know me said that I'm growing cuter and cuter. Before I step into this circle, I always received uncountable numbers of chocolates and momentos during Valentine's Day. At that time, I was a student in Hwa Gang Arts School, majoring in stage performance and minor in photography. In and out of class, everyone is treated equally. My personality is easy going and likes to hang out a lot. I often join my friends and classmates for a walk, shopping, movies and also to discos. During the summer and winter vacations, I would look for a job to earn that extra cash. Sometimes I even find more than 1 job, working an average of 11 hours. It was definitely tough but Im like full of energy and in fact I felt happy being busy. Maybe because I have many siblings and not really because of the home environment I was brought up in. I have many hobbies. From young, I like to play with things by arranging them. When I see clocks and watches, I will 'dissect' them, turning and flipping the inside, trying to understand how it works. Because of this, I'm always punished by my mother. But it's hard to change myself, I still like to bring small things out of the house or secretly create some 'underworld activities' when the adults are not around. My family members often said, "This child is born with a pair of naughty hands." Swimming and comics are also my hobbies, but I'm most interested in becoming a car racer. There's a rule in Taiwan that not until one reaches 18, he cannot apply for a car license. At that time, I can't wait for my 18th birthday to arrive. Finally, in 1993, I can finally hold the steering wheel. That was also my happiest year. The 1st TV programme I appeared in was in Taiwan's "Hao Cai Tou" segment, and I was 'discovered' by famous TV hostess, Cao Lan. She has never approach the production crew to recommend any celebrity, but this time is different. She believed her own eyes and strongly felt that I may be the future's creation. She immediately recommended me to Taiwan's UFO music company. I still remember Cao Lan's comments about me. "Innocent nature and has a captivating smile. One look and you would see the airs of a star in him." At that time, UFO was Taiwan's largest music company and especially favors newcomers. After hearing Cao Lan's recommendations and making some necessary observations, they invited me to join this large family. At that time, I was still a student of Hwa Gang Arts School. An ordinary student who was not mentally prepared to face this star-studded path, as lady luck comes too sudden. At that time, when I saw the audience and many popular megastars, I felt very nervous. Because before that, I was the audience and also have idols but now, I can actually sit together with these stars, do you think I'm not nervous? So as to overcome my phobia, my manager got some professional assistance. 1st, he gave me all the audience's letters to read. This was to nurture my self- confidence. 2nd, he employed an etiquette teacher to teach me about socialization. 3rd, he employed professional dance and martial arts teachers. These made me well prepared to welcome the brand new day. After 1 year, my result was quite good. I had released 3 albums, starred in 1 movie. Right after that, I starred in 2 action movies. This, to me who had just stepped into this circle and still a student, the difficulties were thinkable. Not long after that, so as to practise my jumping on the trampoline, I injured my face and required a few stitches on my lips, but it did not leave any scar. I started to face many challenges, and started to understand that to achieve success, it requires a lot of efforts and hard work. When I just entered the company, I was preparing to graduate from Hwa Gang soon. Waiting to graduate had made me nervous enough and I still had to put half of my energy to record a programme for UFO. It really made me nervous and busy. When I finally graduated from Hwa Gang Arts School, my popularity at that time increased rapidly. However, my mind is still very clear, telling myself that I must not be carried away by the applause and must not lose my 'self' because of fame. Actually, I had planned to enter university after my graduation, but between dreams and reality lies a big gap. At that time, I often thought, 'The heavier the burden, the more effort I have to put in. The greater the workload, the more I have to improve myself.' Therefore, I employed a home tutor to stay with me. Wherever I go, I learnt along the way. There's a reporter who ever asked me, "After you became popular, would you increase the qualities you look for in an ideal girlfriend?" To me, no matter friendship or relationship, these and my status are 2 different things. If it's fated, then we will be together. Regarding career and family, I believe in the word 'Destiny'. Regarding relationship, at my present age, I have ever imagined about this before. I hope that it will be an unforgettable and everlasting one. As to what kind of girls who is suitable for me, I have never thought about this seriously. But one thing I'm sure of, girls with inner beauty and intelligence attract me most. Lastly, my message to all my fans: Put lots of effort in your studies. If everyone can do this, I'll be very happy. Bye-bye! Jimmy Lin Jimmy's Original Chinese Article |
