A maniacal rendition of Get Happy at the piano - "Forget you're troubles come on get happy! You better chase all you're cares away! Shout HALLELUJA come on get happy... you're headin' for the judgement day! The sun is shinin' come on get HAPPY - the Lord is waitin' to take you're hand! Shout halleluja come on get happy, you're goin' to the promised LAND!!!!!!"
WORST MOMENT
Seeing the good reverend in China Blue drag, complete with blond wig (a la Vince Vaughn in Psycho 1998!)
MY REVIEW
When this aired on TV I missed the beginning, so my review starts about 20 minutes in -
Anyway, I guess I didn't fully know what I was letting myself in for! Sure, I was expecting a bit of sleaze, but this could be verging on pornographic! Even though it was late night cable I could tell that it was drastically cut down (at least the sauciest bit was done only in silhouette, and yes, I AM glad). I don't know exactly whether or not I should feel bad about saying I liked this film.... but it really wasn't all that bad. It's kinky, interesting and extremely funny. Kathleen Turner is exceptionally good in her character of China Blue - a fashion designer by day and hooker by night.
And our man Tony is in fine crazy form. Comedy is a thing I really wish he got to do more - he can be so sly and witty.
This film reminded me so much of Psycho III, because of all the sleazy red lighting, Shayne's clippings all over the wall, the peephole etc. I loved how Tony and Kathleen acted together, they seemed to be having an absolute ball doing it - I found it hard to tell whether or not that was real laughter after the nun-roleplaying scene! But if this kind of thing isn't your cup of tea, at least tune in exactly 20 minutes before the end because you have GOT to see him sing at the piano. That will stick with me forever - everyone in my house was asleep but I was laughing SO hard I was worried I'd wake them all up! Fantastic!
