BEST QUOTE
To be perfectly honest with you, none of the dialogue is particularly thrilling, but a slightly more interesting one is when Mimieux's character says to Dr Alex Durant (Tony) that she is getting the feeling that he wants to stay on the ship and go into the black hole. He replies: "On a glorious pilgrimage, straight into what may be the mind of God? I do.... I do."
BEST MOMENT
The fun I had pointing out the dozens and dozens of cliches and being able to say out loud EXACTLY what was going to happen next. For example:
One of the two robots who are snooping around the humanoid room says "Lets get out of here before we're discovered!".... CUE MOCK-STORMTROOPERS TO BURST IN DOOR AND ATTACK THEM.
A massive meteor is tearing through the center of the ship, where the crew must cross a bridge (right across its destructive path of course) in order to escape to their little ship.... CUE THEM TO "ACCIDENTALY" FALL RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BRIDGE LEAVING THEM TO "DESPERATELY" SCRAMBLE TO THE EXIT.
Yvette Mimieux is about to be turned into a robot herself, and when she is just inches away from the lazer beam.... CUE FELLOW CREW MEMBER TO ENTER ROOM AND LIFT HER OFF MOVING TRACK. Then one of the evil mock-stormtroopers bursts in.... CUE FIGHT WITH HERO, INCLUDING HIM BEING PINNED TO THE TRACK WHERE THEY EDGE CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE LAZER, THEN HERO KILLS EVIL ONE AND ESCAPES SECONDS BEFORE WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN INSTANT FRIED BRAINS.
You get the idea! Unfortunately this makes the whole film terribly boring as a result, from a complete lack of original plot and suspense.
WORST MOMENT
The way Tony's character dies! It's a case of "death by evil robot" here, folks, complete with gross sound effects of metal whipping his stomach into a smoothie. Tony's reaction I have to say is pretty good though- because if you think about it, something like that is hard to act without looking totally ridiculous!
