I said it was difficult to find a bad moment in Desire Under the Elms... well, I have to admit it's pretty difficult to find a particularly good one in this movie... Actually, I have no idea which is the best moment... maybe the beginning, when Tony's having a chat with his landlord.

WORST MOMENT
The last scene, Tony's death. It's really painful (feel free to cry).

REVIEW
I'm actually wondering what to write a review of this movie for. And I can't find an answer. I hated it so much when I bought it. I felt it was an insult. It hurt me so much I just felt like crying. I couldn't believe what I was watching. I mean, there was one of the greatest actors of all time in his last performance and... how to make it sound nice?... it was such a forgettable movie.

At first, I couldn't understand how they could offer him that part, how someone could make him do that movie. I mean, the guy was really ill and they made him waste his time and strength in that movie. They knew this was gonna be his last movie, that it was gonna be remembered as his last character, and they gave him this!!!! I love Tony with all my heart and I was furious... really, really mad. Then I tried to watch it in a different way, and I realised the movie was some kind of a homage. There are lots of scenes that remind you of some of his other films, and there are some tics that remind you of some of his other characters. There's a scene in which he washes his hands (which are covered with blood) while he stands in front of a mirror. This scene just take you back to Ten Days Wonder. There's another scene in which he's laying on top of a manikin (he has a really weird relationship with that manikin), and this definitely recalls that scene with the rubber doll in Crimes of Passion. We can also see some water with blood going down the drain (just like in Psycho). And he also stands behind a window curtain (Psycho again).

As a matter of fact, the whole movie reminds us of the Psycho saga. I once read on a site a really nasty thing written by a really nasty person. It said that it was good that Anthony Perkins died because that meant that at least we wouldn't ever have to watch Psycho V. I'm pleased to tell that hideous guy that Psycho V exists and it's called A Demon in my View. This movie is worst than the Psychos but I'm sure those four movies were what the creator of this one had in mind.

The movie tries to tell the story of... yeah, there's no other way to say it, the story of a psycho killer. And, of course, that's Anthony Perkins' character (Arthur Johnson). He's an old and lonely man who lives in a flat. Another guy moves to the same building. This one's young and called Anthony Johnson. Letters will get mixed and stolen and Arthur's past will start to haunt him. He will start having memories of his childhood and his mean aunt (OK, in this one he has an aunt not a mother). And then there'll be flashbacks to his previous murders. Because he had already been known as the Kernbourn killer more than two decades before. And now he's back. He starts killing until someone ends up killing him by mistake thinking, ironically enough, that he was Anthony [Johnson].

My reccommendation is only to watch this movie if you are a HUGE Tony fan, but think it twice before watching it if you are really sensitive, because you might feel this movie like a deep stab right to the heart.
