JAMES OSGOOD RIPLEY PERKINS

Anthony's father Osgood was born on 16th May 1892, in Boston, Massachusetts. He made his Broadway debut in 1924 in the play Beggar on Horseback. Within the next dozen years he would become an extremely popular stage actor and appear in twenty-four stage productions. Despite his success as a leading man in the theatre, Hollywood merely viewed him as a character actor. He appeared in twelve silent pictures, before graduating to 'talkies', the most memorable of which was the original Scarface in 1932. He married Janet Esselstyn Rane in 1922, and died of a heart attack on 21st September 1937 aged just 45, immediately following a road show performance of Susan and God in Washington D.C.
