I thought this song deserved a special mention because it happened to be Tony's biggest seller, and is probably the best one of his songs I have heard. It has a Hawaiian style and is very upbeat and summery - very different from his other material. Elvis Presley actually released it as a single before him in 1957, to co-incide with his film Blue Hawaii. Elvis only peaked the charts at number 37, and no wonder, because his version is awful (and that is a statement coming from a big fan of The King). Tony released it just one month later and managed to get up to number 24.
One of the things I noticed when listening to it (despite the sexiness... calm yourselves, girls) was that it really does reflect the teen heart-throb image that he had previously basked in during the 50s. When I bought his album From My Heart the company I ordered it from stated that Moonlight Swim was the "bonus track". Well, I got the CD but not this track. I was very disappointed about that! But thanks to one of my European visitors I was finally able to hear it. Thankyou so much Biggie!
LYRICS:
Lets go on a moonlight swim
Far away from the crowd
All alone up on the beach
Our lips and our arms
Close within eachother's reach
We'll be on a moonlight swim
Lets go on a moonlight swim
To the raft we can race
And for just a little while
I'll sit and pretend
That you're on a desert isle
With me, on a moonlight swim
Though the air is cold
With kisses oh so sweet
I'll keep you warm
So very warm from head to feet
Lets go on a moonlight swim
We're in love and above
There's a crazy gold balloon
That sits winking down
And inviting us to come on in
On a moonlight swim
Though the air is cold
With kisses oh so sweet
I'll keep you warm
So very warm from head to feet
Lets go on a moonlight swim
We're in love and above
There's a crazy gold balloon
That sits winking down
And inviting us to come on in
(won't you come on in)
On a moonlight swim
(far away from the crowd)
On a moonlight swim
(race the moon through a cloud)
On a moon-light swim.
