As you may or may not be aware already, it is written in almost every book or review on Psycho that Tony did not perform the shower scene murder himself because he had to be in New York to rehearse a play. And also, that he expressed to Hitchcock his concern for the need to save his singing voice so opted to "mouth" the scream down in the fruit cellar during his struggle with John Gavin, and dub it in later (which it never was because Hitch thought it looked far more disturbing when silent - a good decision!). Well this is the play you can thank! This little-known Frank Loesser gem has become something of a cult classic, perhaps because it stars Tony in the lead role of Gideon Briggs.

"Perkins has a light but pleasant tenor that he uses to great effect, especially on his haunting solo "Never Will I Marry." Greenwillow has a lovely score with some particularly fine ensemble singing. This is a surprisingly subtle show that is sometimes dismissed by critics as a bit of pastoral fluff, but if you listen to it carefully you will discover that it is one of Loesser's finest works." --Michael Simmons

If you had listened to his other CDs before purchasing this soundtrack, you are in for a BIG surprise! I thought, "Hang on a minute... he didn't sound like that on the other albums!". Seriously, he's gone half opera - and has one hell of a pair of lungs! Do bear in mind though that he doesn't sing on all of the tracks, but this is definitely worth buying - after all, it's the original cast recording of 1960, a special piece of memorabilia indeed.
