Otherwise referred to as Carl and, once upon a time, internationally renowned nutty dancer, Chas Smash, Carl is a human whirlwind of considerable force and intensity. Most recently employed as A&R supremo at Go! Discs, Carl is reputed to be a talented cook and juggler. An eminently likeable chap with a heart almost as big as his wardrobe, he's outgoing and extrovert by day and quite the opposite by night. Unless he's on tour, when he apparently never sleeps. Carries a lap top computer in which he enters many words of worldly wisdom whenever the creative urge strikes. He would like to write a novel, but he must find the time. He is a tireless campaigner for new music and new ideas, and is always good for a conflab. probably the singularly most influential catalyst in Madness' return to the fray. A man of enormous presence and persuasion.
