The myFM Transmitter Site

Buildings at the TimeMCI site, Pinnacle Hill, Renfrew
At long last, I've captured stills from the videotape I shot on the Canada Day weekend 2004, as the myFM (CHMY-FM 96.1 Renfrew) transmitter was installed at the TimeMCI site, high above Renfrew, on Pinnacle Hill.  Two other sites are found on the Pinnacle: Cogeco Cable's receive site, and a microwave/satellite facility belonging to Bell Canada.  myFM isn't the only occupant of the TimeMCI tower... there's also Storm Internet (wireless high-speed), Enbridge Gas, and two-way radio.  The building on the right holds the transmitters, receivers, etc., and the site's emergency generator is housed in the smaller building on the left.  Power up here is provided by Hydro One, while the studios downtown are on Renfrew Hydro's grid.

Look up.... waaaay up, and there's the 300-foot TimeMCI tower.  You can see myFM's four-bay Dielectric antenna near the top.  The studio-transmitter link's receive antenna is actually a small yagi just below the Scala Paraflector on the tower's lower half.

The myFM transmitter, sitting idle, just two days before official testing began.  The rig is made up of a Bext Lex30 exciter and FR1000 power amplifier, all solid state.  The transmitter outputs 1000 watts to the antenna, for an effective radiated power of 1,660 watts.

myFM's modulation monitor (top), and STL receiver.  Programming is fed to the transmitter via a 950 MHz studio-transmitter link.  When these shots were taken, the STL was active with music, but the FM rig obviously wasn't on the air yet.

Dave Ellis of Pippin Technical Services (Saskatoon, SK) installed the transmitting equipment, and the tower guys at Alpha-Beta Communications (Ottawa) installed our antennas on the tower.
