Inside Y92

CKLY Building, 249 Kent St. West, Lindsay
It's been over five years since I first stepped into a radio studio, that of CKLY Lindsay, then at AM 910.  Today, I came back to see what had changed, and to get some station info for a class assignment.  Big thanks to program & music director Dave Illman, as well as Julie Corlett in promotions, for having me.  Oh, and kudos to Shane Windross for the ride to Lindsay.
Y92's Dave Illman on the air Upstairs we go to the on-air studio, where Dave is hosting the midday show.  Y92's studios were recently upgraded for three reasons: 1) CHUM's Fall 2000 purchase of the station, 2) Y92's MediaTouch automation system was falling apart, and 3) the on-air console, a Ramko xL-series, "blew up". Coincidentally, just after the Scott system was installed this past November, the entire MediaTouch server crashed.
Here's a peek at the equipment in Y92's on-air studio.  A Ward-Beck R2K board is front & centre, with Electro-Voice RE-20 mics all around.  The computer on the right runs Scott Studios SS32, while the computer on the left is used for phoners and voice tracking.  To the right of the Scott system are two Denon CD cart players and a Telos phone hybrid.

Y92 production.  (Prod manager Simon Wawrykow was gone to lunch at the time.)  There's another R2K board, two EV mics, SAW workstation to the right of the board, with a Scott production system on top of the rack, which holds two Denon CD players, a Tascam cassette deck, and a couple of other small pieces of equipment.  In the other corner of the room is a big reel-to-reel machine, probably a Studer.
