| TECHNOLOGY AND THE SHEPHERD In this day of high technology, we speak very little Of shepherds ------And sheep enter our conversation Only when speaking of cloning. Like cloning PC's We now speak of computers, and software, and RAM Of perifpherals and windows, and programs. It's a wonderful new day we live in. A day of IBM Of Microsoft, of Intel, and Quantum, and the list Goes on and changes almost daily. Technology! It changes so rapidly that even computer engineers Can scarcely keep up with the flow of new products. Does all this mean that the Bible is obsolete? That the twenty-third Psalm is not current in this day? Hardly. This best loved Psalm is perhaps needed more. More than ever before. It's solid. It's never changing. It's here when technology and software fail us. The Lord is my Shepherd. What wonderful words To those who are weary and hurting and lonely. There is no software available to bind up the broken heart. No technology to bring peace to troubled minds. Or to lead us beside the still waters that revive us. He restoreth my soul is the way the Psalm puts it. Jesus can do that. He's the only One who can. In the fifth verse it reads, "He anoints my head with oil." And Indian translation reads, "He lays His hand upon my head And the tiredness is gone." What comforting words! Then when time grows short and the shadows grow long. Who has promised to go with you through the valley? Jesus. He'll go with His hand in yours if you'll trust Him just now. Trust His promises. And like the psalmist you can say, "I Shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Secure! ------ H.W. McClelland |
