SILENT NIGHT

During the Christmas season and millions of people around the world sing carols. The best known and most loved is SILENT NIGHT. In fact, almost everyone can recite the first verse.

Silent night! holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

One Christmas I watched a Christmas play on television that was presented by the Salvation Army. At one point in the play a lovely elderly black woman spoke lines that touched my heart. She said, "You know, I was thinking about that song, Silent Night. And I got to thinking it really must have been a silent night, that night. At least after everything settled down and went to sleep. Silent Baby, silent Star, silent Night, the calm before the storm. All that suffering He had ahead of Himself."

My eyes became strangely wet as I listened to her speak. Yes, I thought, how wise were her words. There was a cross in his future a cruel cross.

But the story does not end with a cross, or even with the empty tomb. It goes on and on. JESUS LIVES today to bring to us forgiveness and salvation. And that's why we love Christmas and SILENT NIGHT.

May you see how very special you are to Him.
