DISTORTED FISH SYMBOLS

It is really sad to see that there are those who have the "Christian" fish symbol on their cars, but with "legs" and the word "Darwin" inside. It is sad because it indicates a lack of belief in the Bible account of creation. And while some of those who have this distorted emblem might believe they are hurting Christians who see it, it may surprise them to know that rather than hurt or anger them, most want to reach out to them in love. To those of you whose vehicles bear the "Darwin" emblem, let me assure you that God loves you, and it may have been His intent that this article come to your attention.

Admittedly, there are a few Christians who are mostly all "Law" and very little "Grace" but thankfully they are a small minority. Most Christians are kind and loving; wanting to show they care by sharing the Gospel, the good news of a God who forgives. Certainly Christians must warn of sin's consequences, and man's responsibility to God, but we want to do it in a kind and courteous manner. In reality it is a real joy to tell of a God who, in the words of Henry Ward Beecher, "Pardons like a mother who kisses away the repentant tears of her child".

As one who has for several years visited numbers of convalescent hospitals, and nursing homes, I can tell you that it is Christians who visit patients regularly. This is so greatly appreciated, because many relatives do not visit them, or visit them very infrequently. And almost all nurses and caregivers comment very favorably on those who visit. It helps them keep their patients reasonably satisfied and cheered.........for Christians come to entertain the patients with music, stories, fun and games, and to help with craft projects. And they come to offer encouragement, comfort and hope!

It is not generally the critics of Christians who come to show love and compassion to these most often lonely invalids. And it is not the critics who most often run the missions and feed the poor in the ghetto areas of our large cities. Many times these Christians risk their lives to bring the gospel to those on drugs and drink, and to those who are sometimes gang members. There might be exceptions to all of this, but in general, it is the Christians who who seek to help those who think themselves past hope. It would be hard to argue this if one reads the newspapers or watches television news.

Perhaps some of you are unaware of some of the following facts and quotations that surprised me as I looked into the subject of evolution. Because I am not a scientist this matter was not approached from that perspective, but simply from a desire to find out how others have viewed the creation argument.

While researching this little article in the library I was surprised to read that Darwin had no academic degree in biology, never taught on the the college or university level, and admitted he had used faulty instruments in his research. These facts are from a two volume set of books advocating evolution! The title of the set being "The Encyclopedia of Unbelief". Rather an imposing title. Still they point out, there are many who continue to follow this free thinking naturalist.

However, and this is encouraging, it would seem that the numbers are in decline. In a televised message from Minneapolis, Billy Graham stated that the "Discover" magazine had printed the following: "There are now few Astro Scientists who are atheists." This publication has large numbers of intellectuals and scientists among it's readers. One must agree that such a statement from this prestigious magazine does carry a lot of weight.

A non-believer of the Bible account might have reason to feel a little uneasy over what Walter Farrell remarked, "We could enjoy the story of creation if we were sure it was not true".

Edwin Conklin's quote is one of many typical quotations, but bears repeating for it makes a great deal of sense: "The probability of life originating from accident, is comparable to the probability of the unabridged dictionary resulting from an explosion in a printing shop."

During my research I was startled to read that Robert Ingersoll, the great orator who could sway audiences by his humor and sarcasm into not believing in God, had a most unusual funeral service. On the funeral brochure there was this statement: "There will be no singing." How strange and how sad, but I suppose it was appropriate for one who did not believe in the afterlife.

Strange, because there is always singing at Christian funerals....if available. Friends and family are sad at losing their loved one, but they know without a doubt that they are destined to meet again in a place where there is shall be no more tears, and no more pain. What a great reunion day!

Please understand that this article is not meant to be overly critical, although it may seem so, but to ask those who follow Darwin's "theory" to reconsider their position. Let me urge you to take time to read the Bible. You may not change your mind-------but you will have learned something about the other "fish"--------the one that usually refers to JESUS. And you will have given God a fair chance. But more importantly, you will have given yourself a fair chance.

Someone who is concerned.
