| A Common Sense Approach To Green Energy | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| One of the major issues of our time is energy. The customary forms, based on fossil fuels, present problems that are steadily eroding our way of life. These problems are well known. Use of such fuels to generate electricity is damaging the environment, and more to the point, supplies are becoming costlier and more uncertain because the primary sources of these fuels are in politically volatile parts of the world. Domestic sources, such as coal or nuclear, are cheaper, but environmentally destructive. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Atlantis Power & Light has developed, and patented, a technology that is extremely clean, extremely safe, carbon-neutral, entirely domestic and cheaper than either coal or nuclear power generation. The process begins with algae. We use natural strains and raise them in a closed environment so that the growth rate is very high. The mass can double every 2 hours. This is done using our Dragon robots that are absolutely clean and silent. They are completely autonomous and function unattended for weeks or months. The algae is then treated in a proprietary process invented by the company. We currently have patents or patents pending for all the technology. The process does not consume any of the fuel to drive the conversion, as is typical refinery practice. Instead the robots use additional renewable energy from sun and wind to drive the conversion process. In so doing they take a low-grade, intermittent energy source and convert it into a high value, storable, dispatchable energy source. In effect they take the sun and wind and store it chemically as hydrocarbons. After the robots return to a shore station, this stored energy is combusted directly in a thermionic generator, into electricity. The only emissions are CO2 and some water vapor. No new carbon is released into the atmosphere as the exhaust is bubbled back into the algae tanks where the CO2 is consumed. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Why does the company use robots? The reason for that is, any power source intended to replace fossil fuels must be produced in very large quantities. Anyone who has ever seen a refinery, coal mine or super-tanker knows what I am talking about. Since the company chose a plant as its fuel it has to be done in such a way as to not disrupt agriculture for food production, nor can it consume limited supplies of potable water. By basing the process at sea the company has a facility that has unlimited access to water and energy, is silent and does not produce any waste products. Sea-based operations give each robot 10 times more of the daily kilowatt-hours of energy it needs to run than it could gather on land. It is this order of magnitude increase in available energy that makes this process highly profitable, versus land based agriculture that requires subsidies to be marginally profitable. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Phase One of the project is already underway. The first of 16 VBShdl-2 robots is under construction and will begin operations in March 2009. The robots are constructed by the company at our site in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Upon completion they will be sent to the company dock in Port Norris, NJ. The company will begin producing green power for three commercial customers on the waterfront. Since the VBShdl-2 Dragons are so inexpensive to build and operate, the company plans to re-invest revenues to construct additional Dragons. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Dragon robots are based on a B.E.A.M. Philosophy. This is Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics, and Mechanics. This was originally developed by Dr. Mark Tilden of Los Alamos Laboratories. Our robots combine this with our Polaris A.I. to operate itself. This AI has already been certified by the US Coast Guard and it is the first robotic ship control system they have ever approved. As a result, the robots are relatively low cost and rely on large numbers performing the same task, rather than a single complex robot to do everything. This adds resilience to the design, and the project as a whole. The Polaris A.I. is the latest version of our artificial intelligence software that has been analyzing and monitoring fluid flows in nuclear power plants since 1984. Offshore wind and currents are available virtually 100% of the time when the processor is free to seek them out, rather than waiting for the correct environmental conditions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A fleet of 16 operating out of Port Norris, NJ would produce, on average, 162,000 kilowatt-hours per month each, with gross monthly revenues of nearly $20,000.00. Of great importance, this power output is completely dispatchable, meaning it is available whenever, and it whatever quantity is needed. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Absolutely clean, safe, fully dispatchable energy at a cost lower than coal or nuclear | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| means the company expects unprecedented growth and market acceptance for this technology. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
