To be fair one has to point out that scientists in general do appear to be a conservative lot  For instance, they dislike coming up with explanations involving catastrophes, as though they believed that nature is partial to gradualism and abhors convulsions, avoiding them if possible.
       Anyway, this habit of hanging on to the bygones shows up once again in our star graph, the H-R graph.  That is why it looks like there is something wrong with it when taking a second glance, if you can spot correlations on a diagram.
