MSN Messenger for Mac v2.5 - OS 9.x Patch

Introduction In October 2003, Microsoft improved the communications protocol for it’s Messenger network. Macintosh users eagerly awaited the release of an updated Messenger client in order to continue using the Messenger network. To the surprise of many, the Macintosh Classic release v2.5 had a minimum supported OS version of 9.2.2. This left a lot of Classic users with no (official) means to access the Microsoft Messenger network. An interesting curiosity is that Messenger v2.5 is fully capable of running on ALL versions of OS 9. Microsoft has apparently decided to force an arbitrary minimum of OS 9.2.2, which neglects all users with these OS versions:    • Mac OS 9.0 (Sonata)  • Mac OS 9.0.2  • Mac OS 9.0.3  • Mac OS 9.0.4 (Minuet)  • Mac OS 9.1 (Fortissimo)  • Mac OS 9.2 (Moonlight)  • Mac OS 9.2.1 (Limelight) While most (old world rom) Macintosh computers can run OS 9.0 to 9.1, not all can run OS 9.2.2. You can download a patch from this web page to compensate for Microsoft's oversight, allowing Messenger v2.5 to be used on all versions of Mac OS 9. Messenger v2.5 has no new major features when compared to v2.1. (Back to the top)   Instructions Summary: The Messenger v2.5 installer needs to be patched in order to function. This patched installer can then be used to install the Messenger client. The Messenger client, once installed, needs to be patched as well in order to function. The archive downloaded from this web page contains both patches. Obtain (and decompress if necessary) the Install Messenger 2.5 program from Microsoft's MSN Messenger for Mac web page. Obtain (and decompress if necessary) the MSN Messenger Patch folder from the Download section of this web page. Open the Install Messenger 2.5 Patch application to patch Microsoft’s Install Messenger 2.5 application. Open the now patched Install Messenger 2.5 application and install the Messenger client onto your hard drive. Open the MSN Messenger Patch (xx) application to patch the Messenger client from step 4. The (xx) will be a two letter code for the language you choose to use. Enjoy.
