He was educated at Kearsney College and Natal University Graduate in Marketing and Communications.
He married Sandra Heather and had two children, Robyn ( an accountant with Ernst & Young) and Angus.
Lorne is employed by Indepentent Newspapers in South Africa and is responsible for the Marketing, Research, and Promotions divisions of the company. Independent Newspapers are the leading South African newspaper group with eight metropolitan dailies and six weekly newspapers.
Lorne's hobbies and past times incclude water-skiing, hiking safaris (game viewing on foot), and watching rugby football (he played representative rugby in his youth).
Although less frequent, he continues to deliver the occasional marketing paper to Universities and Technikons, but he continues to contribute to various marketing journals.
