Castle MacLaaran's
Role Playing Game Rules

Magic

Basically, we just don't use magic weapons in MacLaaran

Magic use in MacLaaran should be utilized sparingly and conform to the overall theme of the room. 14th Century Scotland, where knights and the code of chivalry was definitely in play. Remember, during this time the Church was an extremely powerful entity. The average inhabitant of Scotland had little to no education as this was reserved for royalty and those of gentle birth.

Superstition and ignorance was prevalent. Careless use of magic in front of servants and the general population tended to get you huge mobs of pitchfork and torch carrying mobs on your doorstep with a hankering for a cookout with you as the "guest of honor." In cases where the offender is too powerful or just flat scared the bejesus out of the locals, one could find their castle being slowly starved into submission as there would be no trade or sale of goods whatsoever. This would in turn more than likely get the attention of the crown and church as one of their provinces was now no longer paying tithe. This in itself would give cause for the local ruler to want to eliminate the cause of his/her worries, not wanting to be on the wrong side of the crown or the church.

Any super-powerful, absolute killer, or like spells will be thrown out immediately. Example. "I cast a Rain of Fire spell that obliterates your cavalry leaving nothing but charred ash, or I blink My eyes and you are now gasping for breath on the airless surface of the moon."
