William Barbour (NPC) the 4th son of the influential Barbour Family in England, with holding both there and abroad. His father, knowing that he wouldn't inherit the family holdings decided on a Military career for him. William Barbour was raised without want and quite spoiled. Always jealous of his older siblings became determined that if he couldn't inherit the family fortune, he would wrest one for himself elsewhere. During his stint as a Light Cavalry Officer in the service of England He soon developed a reputation for ruthelessness in perfomance of his duty. Very seldom did he take prisoners and homes and manors were often a lot lighter in wealth after he'd swept through.
After being drummed out of the Military for his ungentlemanly conduct on the battlefield (Think of that nemesis in Mel Gibson's, The Patriot...arrogant and rutheless) He took a number of his men with him, forming a Mercenary company,
selling his sword to whoever would pay his fee and meet his terms of employment. Soon he and his men were picked up by an agent of Amir Al Fazul (NPC listed on the webpage) in an ill-fated attempt to recover a treasure that had been placed in the hands of MacLaaran for safe keeping. It was during this incident that Barbour, after having lost a number of his trusted men was captured and turned over to the King's justice. But, Barbour is not a man without means...or friends.
Shadowy services he had performed in the past had garnered allies in high places. He was soon "accidently" released from prison due to a paperwork mix up where it was believed Him to be merely someone with outstanding debts instead of the cold blooded killer sentenced to hang. Upon his release, his hatred of MacLaaran flared again.
Approached by Douglas MacDougal (NPC by Breanna) a Cousin of the MacDougals currently running that clan, who has his own agenda against MacLaaran and it's treatment of his beloved cousins. Was hired to harry and create as much havok as possible in an effort to discredit those in MacLaaran in the eyes of the King, thereby cutting them off from his support.
Douglas MacDougal is being backed and funded by the Knights Hospitlar who are seeking to establish a foothold in Scotland and eradicating any holdings of the Knights Templar who are now, hated enemies. The Hospitlar's have ties all over Europe but are working in secret so as not to lose favor in the eyes of the Mother Church in Rome.
