Official MacLaaran Jousting Rules

Greetings, and welcome to the Official Rules for Our Jousts. These rules have been tested and found to work rather well, creating a fun, yet accurate tournament.

The Host of the tournament will assign a Judge for each contest, or shall judge the contest Him/Herself. All Who wish to participate in the joust must pre-register with the Host via email or in person. The Host will match up people and reply to each with the time of the first round match up.

The scoring will be quite realistic and fair. Each Contestant will send a PM to the Judge, stating whether His lance will be aimed high, middle or low. He will also place his shield high, middle or low for protection. After the judge has both PMs the Judge will then signal the Two Contestants to charge. The Contestants then will make two approaching posts each, alternating them, then the third post shall be the placement of the Lance and Shield. If these posts do not match what was sent to the Judge, the Judge shall overrule the posts, and the results taken from what was posted to the Judge.

If a lance reaches an unprotected spot, the defending Contestant will be unseated and the One remaining on His horse wins the battle. If the lance strikes the shield, it splinters, and the Opponent is not unseated. The Contestant with the splintered lance will get a new one at the end of that run. If both are unseated, They will then fight on the ground using swords

Hand to Hand Combat

Hand to hand combat is conducted as follows. Each person sends a PM to the judge describing their offensive and/or defensive action. The judge calls out "Strike" and each person then repeats their post in public.

Strikes can be posted with swords, staffs, or other weapons of choice, in the following places. Points are scored if that spot is unprotected.

Head - 1 point and stuns the opponent, allowing defense only on the next move.
Shoulders - 1 point and limits use of one weapon or shield.
Chest - 2 points
Legs - 1 point and hampers movement

Protection is achieved by placing the shield and/or parrying with the sword or staff at either head, shoulders, chest or legs. When parrying, there are no offensive strokes permitted.

The match is won by the first to attain 5 points.

The Winning Contestant shall congratulate the fallen on a good joust. Remember, this is the era of Honor in Battle.
