Official MacLaaran Fencing Rules

Weapons: Saber, Rapier, Epee or Foil

Greetings, and welcome to the Official Rules for Our Fencing Contests. These rules have been tested and found to work rather well, creating a fun, yet accurate tournament. All contestants will use tipped foils and wear a face mask. Males will also wear a cup.

A match will consist of 5 points. Each "touch" will award that contestant one point. A "touch" will be scored any time a thrust reaches a place not protected with a parry OR the opponents thrust. If both contestants thrust at the same level, they are considered as blocks and neither will receive a point. There are only a total of 5 points in a match with the each contestant having the opportunity to score all 5 points. In that case the score would be 5-0. Most contests will end as 3-2 or 4-1.

The Host of the tournament will assign a judge for each contest. The scoring will be quite realistic and fair. Each contestant will send a PM to the Judge, stating whether His/Her weapon will be thrust high, middle or low. He/She will also parry high, middle or low for protection. After the judge has both PMs the judge will then signal the two contestants to STRIKE. The contestants then will post their maneuvers.

It adds to the zest of the combat if both contestants add a little motion to their attack and a few comments after each strike. Here is an example.

*circling my opponent warily, my eyes never leaving his, I see an opening and thrust high as I parry low*

Ouch!! Darn it that hurt. Nice move!
