William Alexander MacKenzie

b. 31 July 1877. m. 5 July 1911. d. 29 March 1957. William was raised in the Hardwoods with his two sisters. Having lost his father at age nine, he left N.B. on the Harvest Excursion going West in 1897, and continued on North to the Yukon Territory...and the Gold Rush.

He had at least two claims in the Yukon, and it is supposedly around 1906 that he returned to Black River only to find out that his mother, who had been keeping house for Hedley and James Cameron of Black River, and sister, Janie, had moved, his father and sister Kate having died several years before he left.

He married Elmira Loggie of Point Aux Carr in 1911 and he purchased a house in Napan, which was on the original land granted unto Samuel MacKnight, his great-grandfather. He died in 1957 at the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, N.B., after cancer surgery. He is buried in Black River Bridge in the family lot.
