The George M. Loggie Collection
b. 20 or 30 August 1851. Not married. 9 November 1889. Murdoch was the youngest child of Rodrick MacKenzie and Isabella MacDonald. He became a trustee of St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, Black River Bridge, as he is listed among a group of them in an 1886 land transaction.
All that remains of one of the houses in the MacKenzie Settlement is the aging well, and near it, a large stone, which was supposedly carried up from the ground by Murdoch while the well was being dug-probably during the 1850s. Oral family history states that he was a very strong man, as he would have had to have been to perform such a feat.
We are not certain of his cause of death at such a young age. His death was not listed in a Chatham newspaper, but in the Saint John Daily Telegraph, so he may have been living in Saint John at the time of his demise, but this remains a theory.
