I am beautiful, black, proud,
making pottery,
discovering fire,
creating language,
birthing a human culture.
I am an Amazonian warrior,
tall, tanned, bare-breasted,
tending to the land for food,
respecting our mother-sisters,
honoring our Mother-Goddess.
I am old, wise, wrinkled,
able to see the future
because I remember
the truths and lessons
of the past.
I am a pregnant mother,
nourishing the unborn
in my woman-womb with
the essence of my being,
ready to create a new life
all over again.
I communicate with the Goddess
through the mirror,
the trees,
my woman-lover,
my beloved cats and ferrets
who also remember
that it was first
woman who petted
them as friends.
The Goddess gives birth
to me through a woman-goddess.
My spirit is created
from her breath
and bathed clean
as I swim in her sea-womb.
And I am again them.
I am,
as I was,
a researcher,
a scientist,
a healer,
a teacher,
a leader,
a creator,
a woman,
a goddess.
