All the Things I Never Knew

There are so many things
that I just never knew,
so many things
I wasn't even aware
that I didn't know
until I met you.

I never knew
the total joy
of being in love
until the first time
I held you in my arms.

I never knew
the paralyzing
power of fear
until I had to
face the thought
of ever losing you.

I never knew
the absolute beauty
of the human soul
until the first time
I heard you laugh.

I never knew
the helplessness
of piercing pain
until I first
saw you cry.

I never knew
true devotion
until I felt
without a doubt
that I would
give my life
to protect you.

I never knew
the heart breaking
depth of sorrow
until I said a single
hurtful word to you
that I couldn't take back.

I never knew
the preciousness
of life or love
until the fist time
I looked into your eyes.
For all the things
that I never knew,
I thank you for being my guide
and pray that I will learn
by sharing my life with you
all of the many other things
that I never knew
I never knew.
