I just had to let you know,
even though you've been gone for so long,
that I lied to you.
I didn't mean to, you see,
I simply did not know
that it would ever cease to be
the gossiple truth.
How was I to know
that one day I would awake
and not have you on my mind?
How could I have seen into the future
to know that I would ever
drift off to sleep with dry eyes again?
How could I have guessed
that I could ever smile again?
How could I have been smart enough
to know that my heart would heal?
How could I have known
that when I said I'd love you forever
that someday I would hardly think of you at all?
