I know that you don't love me any more,
but before you get up and walk out the door,
do me one last favor and stay with me tonight.
I'll wear something nice and turn down the light.
Please just hold me for just a few more hours.
you don't have to do anything special, like bring me flowers.
You don't have to still be here at the sun rise,
but tonight, just pretend and tell me lies.
Tell me again that you'll always love me
and lie and say that apart we'll never be.
Kiss away the many tears that are falling
and tell me that for us paradise is still calling.
Don't say anything about leaving me for her,
just lie to me and say of our love you're still sure.
Don't talk about tomorrow and the pain it'll bring,
just lie to me and once again promise me your ring.
Don't tell me that I can easily find someone new,
just lie to me and say that I'll never need anyone but you.
Don't tell me that you still love me but not in that way,
just lie to me and say all of the things you used to say.
Don't remind me of all of the lonely nights that lie ahead,
just lie to me and say you'll love 'till you're dead.
Don't make me have to hear you saying your last goodbye,
just lie to me and pretend you don't notice when I cry.
I'll deal with the pain tomorrow and forever,
just lie to me tonight and say you'll leave me never.
Don't tell me I'll live and I'll get through it all O.K.,
just lie to me tonight and hold me 'till just before day.
Don't worry about making promises you won't keep,
just lie to me tonight and gently rock me to sleep.
I know you'll already be gone for good when I awake,
just lie to me tonight and tell me of the life we'll make.
Just lie to me tonight, like the many nights before,
then, on your way out of my life, softly close the door.
