Just then, I realized that we were no longer alone. A third woman now stood in the room, staring at me as if to inspect the progress of the interrogation. A new player had stepped onto the floor, cutting into our dizzying dance of confusion and fear. My heart jumped in my chest with such force that I feared that it would literally eject from my body, slam against the wall in front of me and fall to the floor in a splattered puddle of blood.
I looked through the glaring light and surrounding darkness with what can only be described as eagerness, as if this new arrival were a savior sent to me from the Goddess, my means of rescue from this nightmare. My eyes searched for some form of compassion to show upon her face, but I found none.
The first voice continued as the party crasher stood there in silence, scrutinizing my every move, my every breath, my every though.
"And you also dated Jerome Baste for almost your entire freshman year of college, isn't that true?"
"Yes, but what does any of this have to do with anything? What have I done?"
"Is it also true that you claim to be a lesbian?"
"What? Yes, that's true. What, are you from some Christian organization or something? I have civil rights you know and this is unlawful imprisonment!"
The accusation in her voice caused my anger to rise and beat back my fear. How dare these people treat me this way I thought! I looked up to face my accuser with an expression of defiance on my face.
"I am who I am and I will not change!"
A cold, leather glove drove itself into my cheek so hard that I was sure that it did not have a human hand but a steal model of one inside.
"When exactly did you start claiming to be a lesbian?"
I opened my mouth and caressed the inside of my cheek with my tongue, lapping up the blood that now flowed from where my cheek had collided with my teeth. Again the voice demanded a response.
"When exactly did you start claiming to be a lesbian?!"
"What do you mean 'claim' to be a lesbian? I AM a lesbian!"
"But did you not just admit to dating three different men over a period of four years?"
"What does that have to do with anything? That doesn't have anything to do with whether or not I am a lesbian!"
