Never say, "I love you"
before the sun has set.
Instead, hold me close
to your heart
all through the night.
Whisper my name
under your breath
with a secret smile
only you can see.
Talk quietly with me
at lunch on the phone
and tell no one that it's me.
Daydream about what
the night will bring
and never let anyone
hear your happy sigh.
Listen to your friends
tell about their loves
and never share the stories
of our secret love.
Smile at couples
walking hand in hand
and never reveal
that you are thinking of me.
Lie about my name
when you have to
and never allow anyone
to see us together.
Carry on
with your secretive life
and never say "I love you"
before the sun has set.
