Maybe I can help you
to understand the fears
that you wish to ignore.
Maybe together
we can find
some common ground
to start from.
Maybe once the formalities
of taught hate
have been passed over
we can start to see
who the other is
and realize
that neither of us
is the green monster
hiding in the closet.
Help me to understand
what it is you think I am
so that I can show you
that your delussions
based on fairy tale dreams
and locker room jokes
are further from the truth
than you would dare
to ever believe.
Show some human
compasion for me
and give me
the opportunity
to prove that I
can give you
the same.
Find it in your heart
to be honest
and true
and maybe,
just maybe,
you'll find
a person
who would really
like to know
who you are.
