This poem is dedicated to my loving wife, Jamie,
who gives me the love and support I needed to heal.

You stood proudly in the field,
never worrying about the distance
I put between us.
You smiled like a mother
and let me go as far as I needed
to go into the horizon.
You followed my personal flight
and admired my strength and grace.
Never once did you call me back
out of fear of losing sight of me.
You knew I needed to see
the night stars twinkling in my eyes,
you only hoped I saw my own reflection
in the face of the moon.
You covered me with love,
healed my many wounds,
and enjoyed watching me grow
into the eagle you knew I could be.
You gave me my wings
and taught me to fly.
You opened your arms and set me free.
You smiled with your eyes
and let me be
what you knew I could be.
You let me fly away
without fear or regret
and waited patiently
until I found my way back
home to you again.
