Our Berlin

The thick, blood red bricks
form a wall of hate
that we have to face.
We butt heads daily,
despite the headaches,
we fight for love.
The right to be who we are
is all we ask
from the uncaring wall,
yet our pleas
simply bounce away,
deflected by the hate
of what they do not understand.

One by one,
level by level
it is coming down.
It may take us centuries
to push through
that wall built
with bricks of hate
and cement of ignorance,
but it WILL be
our Berlin.
