By Beverly Greene
This poem is dedicated to my wonderful wife, Jamie.
I appologize, honey, that no poem I write will ever be true to my love for you,
but I vow to never stop trying to find the words to tell you how much you mean to me!

This first year as your wife
has been the most trying
time in my entire life,
but also the most rewarding.
Though sometimes it feels
that love has caught us
in her supernatural web,
refusing to let go,
I have never loved you more.
I love the erie normality
of waking up next to you,
of seeing you every night.
I love getting irritated
when the butter goes forgotten
or the sugar lay spilled.
But most of all,
I love you.
I have learned more
about the dark corners
of your soul than I ever though
I would want to know.
Somehow, your flaws became jewels
that sparkle in my night,
adding beauty and diversity
to my tiny universe.
You are the star in the sky
that helps me navigate
through the angry waves
and tormented storms.
You always show me the way
back home whenever I am lost.
You are always beside me
when I feel lonely.
One year has come and gone 1
yet you've been in my soul
for the whole of eternity.
You were a part of me
long before I knew
just who me was.
You have been the corner stone
of my existance
since you typed your way 2
into my lonely life.
Since the very first moment
that I saw your smiling face,
you have been the lighthouse
guiding me to the peaceful shores.
One year ago today,
I gave you my heart.
I promised to stand by you
no matter how bad it got,
and time tested my conviction.
I promised to be there
even when life was too hard,
and my heart never once strayed.
Like Ruth before me, 3
I stand by your side
in the name of love,
claiming my right of connection
to another human being.
I will follow you wherever you go,
walking beside you.
I will lend my support
with every mountain you climb.
I will share my life
even when it feels like
it is too difficult to go on.
I will stay strong in your love
and content in your heart.
Through the rocky ages
compressed by the numbers
that marked the days,
I have grown to love
and honor you even more
than I did when I said "I will!" 4
So, today as we celebrate
doing what was called impossible,
I want to let you know
that I am still
Crazy For You. 5
Reference 1: "One year has come and gone" This poem was written for my wife on our first wedding anniversary. The year that has "come and gone" is refering to the date of our wedding and not the start of our relationship.
Reference 2: "since you typed your way" The word "typing" was used because Jamie and I meet on a telnet chat.
Reference 3: "Like Ruth befor me," This reference refers to the fact that we used quotes from the book of Ruth in our wedding ceremony.
Reference 4: "than I did when I said 'I will!'" This is a reference to our wedding ceremony, in which we said "I will" rather than "I do". If you want, you can read our wedding ceremony.
Reference 5: "Crazy For You" The song "Crazy For You" by Madonna became our song several months before I moved here in the summer of '95 when Jamie was driving me back to the Seatle airport. We had been trying not to cry all day despite our impending seperation and our uncertainity of the future we could have living in 2 different countries. I flipped through the radio stations searching for a good song. I finally found a station that was coming in decently and playing music that we both liked. As we were driving, the song "Crazy For You" came on and I started singing it to Jamie. Well, despite all of her determination not to cry, the song just seemed too perfect. Since that day, "Crazy For You" has been our song and we danced to it at our wedding.
