The Three "Oh's" Of Understanding

You give me that look
and I know what you're thinking.
Yep, you heard me right.
And I know what's coming.
The three classic "oh's"
of understanding.
I've heard it all before,
and here we go again...

"OH" - Level One
'I'm sorry that I made a mistake.'
It's all so polite,
so automatic
without any real
feeling or meaning
behind it,
a plugged-in response
thanks to the expectations
of 'polite society'.

"OH!" - Level Two
'That certainly was a big mistake!'
There is finally light
at the end of the tunnel,
though still dim
to the reality
of its meaning,
only the vague knowledge
of some rude assumption
you're sure to make again.

"OH!!" - Level Three
'You mean....you're one of THOSE?!?!'
And your eyes sparkle
with the knowledge,
newly assimilated
into your narrow brain,
the realization
of the alien concept
standing before you.

Well, now you know
what 'one of THOSE'
looks like!
