Come back for more story snippets! Taken from "The Eighth Crest" By Alan Moffett Chapter 3 (The Crests): "I got it from my mentor, Jaron. You remember me telling you about him earlier right?" her father asked as Kelly nodded her head with a yes. David opened the book and told her a wondrous, yet deceitful story. He told her of Tirrus and Morlor, about the seven mystical stones and how Morlor, a great wizard, created them. There were seven made. The first was a flame crest. Morlor channeled all of his fire magic into this beautiful triangular stone he had made from a ruby. The second stone Kelly learned about was the water crest. Morlor once again channeled all of his power over the seas into a magnificent square Sapphire. Third he created an earth crest. With this crest he would be able to control plant life and he could hear the forest speak. A forest would grow even in the harshest of environments. He channeled this power into a crescent shaped emerald so pure and so green that the beholder would stare at it in awe. It was shaped like a moon. The Fourth that was created was the air crest. It was oval in shape and all the power of the wind was channeled into a beautiful crystal stone. Kelly looked at the picture that was drawn and it reminded her of a teardrop. The fifth crest was an Amethyst and was purple in color. Morlor channeled the power of lightning and electricity into this star shaped crest. The sixth crest was a beautiful diamond shaped Topaz. Morlor channeled all of his healing powers into the stone. The seventh and final stone, Morlor made a channeling stone. It was made from a diamond and was perfectly smoothed and rounded to perfection. The stone acted as a key. The other crests did not work correctly without it. It bound the crests together, and with it Morlor could create portals to other worlds. New exciting worlds he could explore. The channeling stone had to be combined with the other stones for this to take place. After he had done this he no longer had his great powers. Morlor knew with these stones he would forever have his power and no one could take it from his body. He was not going to tell anyone of these stones. He had made one mistake. In the distance, his master Tirrus, who he thought was dead, watched as Morlor did his evil deed. Tirrus would go and see Morlor when he least expected it and take the stones from him. Tirrus knew he had to curse Morlor for his deed even though he didnt want to. He had to think of a humane way to do it. He would turn him into an animal. Kelly stopped her father when she gave out a loud yawn. "So this Tirrin, I mean Tirrus, was the same one that trained your uncle?" "Yes as matter of fact he was," he said as he continued to read the story. "Tirrus put his curse on Morlor and changed him into a great big wolf. He then created a dream stone to look in on Morlor just in case he saw the moment when he would change his ways. He sent it to Jaron and me on that fateful day when we received the sword. The very sword I gave to Jocelyn before the big trip." David stopped as he saw Kellys eyes getting heavy. "Dad," she said slowly about to fall asleep, "What does the sword do?" Kelly asked barely holding her eyes open. "What ever the crests will allow it to do my dear. Jocelyn will soon find out that the sword magnifies the power of the stones." her father watched as Kelly closed her eyes and told her one last thing. "There was also a fabled shield. No one knew who created it or where to find it, but with the stones used they will defend the bearer. The channeling stone holds that key." David looked down to see his little girl fast asleep. "Sweet dreams," he said as he gave an ironic smile, turned out the light and left the room.
