The Ellerbe school was built in the mid to late 60's with the intention of being used as a rural high school for students in the small towns south of Shreveport.  Before construction could be completed, the Caddo Parish School Board was forced to close down several outlying and rural schools due to lack of funds.   Due to this, construction was halted and the land and buildings were put up for sale.  The school was never opened and in time it became a hangout for young people looking for a place to cause trouble, drink, smoke, or whatever.

Currently the land and buildings are under private ownership, and the buildings themseves are considered condemned and dangerous.
