The television show MacGyver ran from September 29, 1985 to August 8, 1992 on the ABC network. It starred the ex-Special Forces agent, now working at the Phoenix Foundation, known as MacGyver. MacGyver, unlike many TV heroes, would rather use his brain to think up ideas (titled "MacGyverisms" in a later episode) rather than use a gun to fight his way out of the situations that Peter Thornton, his boss and best friend, would get him into on assignment.
For example, MacGyver might defuse a bomb with a paper clip, use a chocolate bar to plug an acid leak, and use acidic acid and ammonia to get past a motion detector (smoke screen). He could get past an entire army with nothing more than what's found in the kitchen!
