Ena Liversedge left school at 15 (1922) and went to work in Blackwell's studio in Hornsea, Yorkshire, England, as an accompanyist until marriage to John MacDougall in 1931. She also taught piano. She enjoyed playing for the silent films - the talkies did not come to Hornsea until about 1931.

Ena didn't work after marriage but helped with Listener Research for the BBC for many years in the 1940s. She filled in a form each week with what she had listened to and what she thought about it. She also helped to run a rest room at the Church for servicemen during the Second World War where they could read or write letters, I think they fell asleep as often as not and she was embarrassed at having to wake up the snorers!

When we moved to Liverpool in 1947 she helped in the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) with meals on wheels and at the baby clinic, handing out baby milk and orange juice, and advice! After moving to Garstang in 1963, she took up painting.
