Howdy was a member of the 745th Tank Battalion which landed in Normandy on D-Day, going ashore on Omaha Beach.  He was wounded in action in Germany.  After the war he remained in the Reserve Corps and was recalled for active duty for the Korean war, but because of his previous wounds was not required to enter Active Duty again.  Following his discharge after WWII he was employed by the Indianapolis Morning Star which was where he had worked after graduation from Butler University in 1940.  He was a sports reporter for several years. Later he became a special reporter for Dunn & Bradstreet, and this was followed by many years as a special agent with Indianapolis Life Insurance Co. in Indianapolis, IN.  He died from congestive heart failure on August 11, 1971 at the age of 53.  We had two children, Robert Lowell in 1944, and Anne in 1948.  Robert now lives in Bellmore, IN and is married to Margary France Work (Mimi).  They have three children, Jai, Todd, and Craig.  Jai and Todd are married with families and Craig is in college at Indiana University, and is a senior.   Anne now lives in Pompano Beach, FL and is married to Randall Lee Lynch.  They have two children, Carrie Ann Lynch, and Ryan Lynch who is now a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines.  Both  Anne and Randy are Assistant Principals in the Broward County School System.  In 1973 I married Carroll D. Our combined family now includes four daughters and two sons, fourteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren .  After living in Grand Ledge for four years we moved to northern Michigan after Carroll retired from the real estate business.   We built a home on East Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan near the small town of Elk Rapids, MI.  We had been spending a part of each winter in Florida visiting our daughter Anne and in 1988 we made the "big move" to  Florida which is now our   permanent home and residence.
