MAC BAND
ALUMNI UPDATE: DEBRA COOK
Class of 1979
Instrument: Clarinet
Married Name: Debra
Cook Zamora
E-Mail Address: [email protected]
Currently living in Houston, Texas (Greater Cy-Fair)
Before graduating from high school, I moved to Houston. My diploma is from Houston Northbrook. I proceeded to the University of Houston and
acquired a BBA in Management Information Systems. After graduating from college, I got married and started working
for a living.
Current job:
Bookseller at Barnes & Noble (the story of my career is too long to
be told here).
My spouse is Tim Zamora, whom I met via mutual friends in our
college band. He’s a band director
whose current assignment is teaching beginner band.
No kids of our own.
Roughly 600 – 700 “proxy
children” at any given time (Tim’s 6th grade students plus the
members of the junior high and high school bands that he assists during
after-school hours, most of whom he had as students in prior years).
We have no pets (allergy problems, etc.).
I sometimes play in my college alumni band. My husband plays for the Houston Symphonic
Band, which is a community band.
Most of my volunteer work is for the band program in the
district where my husband works. For a while,
I was the halftime announcer for the high school marching band and the drill
team.
There’s no doubt that my Mac Band experience, short though it
was, went a long way in preparing me for all my future teamwork (career and
otherwise). The upperclassmen set some
great examples (thanks, I truly appreciate your efforts).
My most favorite Mac Band memory is the announcement of the
Division I rating at UIL Marching Contest in the fall of 1975. I remember a lot of good times at those band
parties too (grin).
