About
Mac Band Alumni
Carol Nelson, the Mac Band's current head director, was approached in September 2002 about the idea of forming an alumni group and she liked the concept.  I came up with the idea after realizing that the 50th anniversary of McCallum High was approaching - I had observed a similar celebration in the school district where my husband is a band director and had heard of other schools in Texas that had held similar events with success.

Our first event was held in November 2003 to commemorate 50 years of band at Mac.  While the turnout was a bit light, those who did attend enjoyed themselves.  Imagine, if you will, a dinner where three decades of Mac Band were represented at one table - !  I hardly took any pictures because I wanted to hear as many stories as I could.  And I do believe that Ms. Nelson was a little bit stunned by the number of former students who were in band under her leadership that turned up to say hello.

I was a clarinetist in the Mac Band from August 1975 to December 1976, at which point my family moved to Houston.  I continued playing in concert and/or marching bands through my third year of college.

Alumni who are interested in participating in the group, even if it's just to be on the mailing lists, may E-mail
[email protected].  Those who prefer USPS communication (i.e., snail mail) will find the USPS address on our home page.  If you would like to help with group activities or have suggestions, please let me know in your E-mail message.  I would like to prevent generation of extra work for Ms. Nelson or assistant directors Mr. Klenzendorf or Mr. Ruby, so any help is appreciated.  I look forward to hearing from you.
