WILL OF JOSEPH WRIGHT

I, Joseph Wright, a resident of the city of Peoria, county of Peoria, and State of Illinois, being of sound and disposing mind and in reasonable health, do make, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made, that is to say:

I give, devise and bequeath to Theodosia E. Wright, my wife, all of my property, real, personal and mixed, of what nature and kind soever, and wheresoever the same shall be at the time of my death, to have and to hold for the term of her natural life, (excepting however the lots in "Wright’s First Addition to Peoria hereinafter mentioned, and otherwise disposed of) and direct that my said wife shall, in case I have not already done so during my lifetime, purchase a Lot in Springdale Cemetery near the city of Peoria aforesaid, which lot shall not be more than thirty (30) feet square and erect thereon a monument suitable for a burial ground, said lot and monument not to exceed fifteen hundred dollars in cost altogether.

I give, devise and bequeath Lots six, seven and eight, in Block "A", Lots seven and eight, in Block C, and Lots three and four in Block D all in Wright’s First Addition to the city of Peoria, county of Peoria and State of Illinois, to my son George R. Wright, to have and to hold absolutely and in fee simple forever. I also bequeath to my said son George R. Wright the notes I now hold given by him to me, as a gift.

I direct that the Executors of this my Will shall carry out all my contracts of sale of real estate still not fully executed at the time of my death, and said executors shall make, execute and deliver deeds of conveyance for such real estate when paid for, as fully as I could if living.

At the death of my wife, Theodosia E. Wright, the Homestead on which we live, known as Lots four and five, in Block thirteen in Pulsifer’s Second Addition to Peoria, Illinois, together with all the household furniture therein shall go to and be the property of my daughter, Sarah A. Wright.

Subject to said life estate therein to my wife I give, devise and bequeath one hundred and ninety-nine (199) feet on South Adams street in Peoria, particularly described as follows; nineteen (19) feet front by depth of lot off the North side of Lot ten, all of Lots eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen and five feet front by depth of lot off the South side of Lot eighteen, all in Range One in Wright’s Subdivision of Hamlin’s Out-Lots in the City of Peoria, together with the buildings thereon to my daughters Sarah A. Wright and Mary J. Drysdale, share and share alike.

Subject to said life estate in my wife, I give, devise and bequeath to my daughter Anna T. Wright, now Anna T. Lines, one hundred and ten feet on Adams Street, particularly described as follows, Lots twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three and twenty- four, in Range One, in Wright’s Subdivision of Hamlin’s Out-Lots in the city of Peoria, together with the buildings thereon.

I give, devise and bequeath to Mary Belle Wright, my granddaughter at the death of Theodosia E. Wright, my wife, twenty-five feet front on Olive Street, described as follows; Lot sixteen, in Range Five, in Wright’s Subdivision of Hamlin’s Out-Lots, together with the buildings thereon.

It is further my will that at the death of Theodosia E. Wright, my wife, all other personal and mixed property belonging to me, not above mentioned and bequeathed, of what nature and kind soever and wherever the same shall be at the time of my wife’s death, shall go to and be equally divided between my daughters, Sarah A. Wright, Mary J. Drysdale, and Anna T. Lines, share and share alike.

It is further my Will that any other real estate which I may own at the time of my death, not specifically devised herein, I hereby devise and bequeath to my son, George R. Wright, and my daughters, Sarah A. Wright, Mary J. Drysdale, and Anna T. Lines, share and share alike.

I hereby nominate and appoint Theodosia E. Wright, my wife, and my daughter, Sarah A. Wright, to be Executors of this my Will, and direct that they be not required to give security as such Executors. And in the case of the death of either of them, the survivor shall act as Executor hereof, without bond as such.

In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal at Peoria this sixth day of September A.D. 1893.

To my beloved wife Patty my three negroes, Hannah, Lucy, and Bob as long as she remains single and afterwards to be equally divided among my daughters, Jenny, Betsey, Salley, and Polly. Also to my wife the use of my land together with my stock of all sorts and my household furniture and farming utensils, afterward the raising and schooling my small children to be equally divided among my sons, George Wright, Joseph Wright, Beverly Wright, John Wright, James Wright, and Jackson Wright and heirs, surviving heirs excepting and reserving to my wife the power to give my grand children, Weatherly and Shaharozed Wright any proportion she may choose so I appoint my wife Patty and my son George Wright my only executors. The LDS Ancestral File database includes a James WRIGHT (AFN: WPPD-JX), born about 1765, and spouse Patty or Patsey (last name unknown) (AFN: WPPD-K4), born about 1769, but no additional information.
