I know about the big snow in Nov. 1917.  I was in it.
I lived at Bridges about six miles southwest of Charleston, Mo., shucking
corn for George Cain.  It started some time after noon.  I had about two
thirds of my second load.  It started snowing so hard the team would not stay.
I drove to the house put the team in the barn, got some boards and put them on
the wagon, next morning I could not see the wagon, just a big snow drift.
Snow was to the top of the fence post.  the snow stayed on most of the winter.
Some of the farmers made a big snowplow put sixteen mules to it and went into
Charleston.  The next day they drove to East Prairie, That was Nov. 1917.

     DETROIT MAN KILLED IN AUTO-TRUCK CRASH-----Rayrnond E. Leeright, 66,
Longacre (Detroit), Mich., died in a hospital here six hours after the auto he
was driving struck the rear of a concrete loaded dump truck about one-half
mile south of Olmsted on Route 37 about 2:30 p. m. Wednesday.  A Cobden
native, Mr. Leeright had been a resident of Cairo and this area for many years
prior to moving to Detroit where he was employed as a machinist.  'the
collision occurred, officers stated, as the dump truck, driven by Forrest Ray
Friese, 36, Alto Pass, who was not injured, pulled out to pass a school bus
after the truck had stopped behind the bus while students were being
discharged.  Leeright's auto, in an apparent attempt to pass, swerved out in
the northbound lone to collide with the rear of the tuck.  In photo State
Trooper Julius Young watches as wrecker operator, Silas Verble, pulls
Lecright's smashed vehicle from the roadway,

------------------------ NOTES on page I have (my note: I don't know who wrote these):

The above was all written in the same handwriting, - so is a copy of other information. We don't seem to have any other list of births and deaths, but we do have an old velvet covered album of pictures and there is a notice of the death of both Richard V. Wright (now I find that is the son of Zach and Prudence Wright) and of Mary E. Wright who died June 18, 1887 listed as Aged 79 years. So she is the wife of Richard Wright, the elder.

These photographs are unidentified - but we have kept it. Ruby doesn't know who they are, and she is the last of that generation of Zach and Prudence Wright.

Ray doesn't remember any reference by his Mother to any relatives older than the brothers and sisters (his uncles and aunts) of Mary Nancy Wright. -----------------------------

I don't know where this bible or the photographs are, but sure would like to make contact with the family member who has them or anyone else who might be related to this family. I have a photocopy of a picture that may be one of the Richards (there are several father/son named so but with no distinction as far as "senior or junior or differing middle initials") which I am willing to share as well as some other documents. Hope this helps someone (including me <smile>).

Subject: FRANCIS WRIGHT

John Wright, son of Francis Wright and Anne Washington was my ancestor. The following re: your interest in his half brtoher is from my files.

A FEW OF THE DESCENDANTS OF FRANCIS WRIGHT

1. Francis1 Wright, son of Capt. Richard Whittington Wright and Ann Mottrom. Born, 1660 (?), in Chickacone, Northumberland, Co., VA. Died, 1713 (?), in Westmorland Co., VA1. He was a Gentleman, Captain, Major, Surveyor, Attorney, Sheriff and Justice of Westmorland County. He married Anne Washington, daughter of Col. John Washington in about 1680. In Francis Wright's day, public offices were filled by appointment. The ablest and wealthiest men were selected as justices. Francis was a justice most of his adult life. He also served as Sheriff on two occasions, once being succeeded by his brother-in-law, Capt. Lawrence Washington. In those days Sheriff was the highest office in the county and appointed by the governor of the colony. In 1703, Queen Anne recognized him as "first citizen" of Westmorland County and President of the Justices. He died at the age of 53 and was buried on his inherited estate of 1400 acres. He did not leave a will and all of his property went to his eldest son, John Wright. Francis Wright is accepted by the Virginia Society of Colonial Dames as an eligible ancestor.

Francis married, first, Anne Washington, daughter of John Washington Col. and Anna Pope, circa 1680 (?), in Lower Machodoc, Westmorland Co., VA. Born, Sep 1659, in VA. Died, circa 1697. Children:

Francis married, second, Martha Cox, 1709. Francis Wright's widow, Martha, remarried to John Howell, one of her deceased husband's employees. Children: 2. John2 Wright I (Francis, 1). Born, 25 Feb 1685/6 (?), in Westmorland Co., VA2. Died, before 1739, in Prince Wm. Co., VA. There are three consecutive generations of John Wrights in the decent from Francis Wright to my last Wright ancestor, Lucretia Wright. Although they are not designated so in the records of their respective generations, they will be designated herein as John Wright I, John Wright II, and John Wright III.

John Wright I, son of Francis and Anne Washington Wright, succeeded his father as Attorney, Sheriff's Deputy, Surveyor, Vestryman and Judge. Although he is on record as a "Gentleman" and maintained excellent social position, his public career was overshadowed by both that of his father and his son, John Wright II. It is believed that he was a better sportsman than farmer or merchant and more pleased with

entertaining than in furthering his political or private fortune. When John I became a Justice of Westmorland County in 1720, the oath was administered by his first cousin Augustine Washington. In 1723, he sold his land and moved further up the river where he helped found Prince William County, Virginia. He died there in 1739 without leaving a will. Under the right of primogeniture, his son, Francis, inherited the estate. When Frances died without male heirs, the younger brother, John Wright II would have then inherited. However, Francis sold the estate before his death.

John married Dorothy Awbrey, daughter of Richard Awbrey and Dorothy Meadow (possibly), 1705, in Westmorland Co., VA. Children:

3. Richard2 Wright (Francis, 1). Born, circa 1711. Died, 1740. Richard inherited nothing from his father's estate, but his half-brother, John, gave him land.

He married Elizabeth Wigginton, 1730. Children:

Subject: WRIGHTS IN ENGLAND

The following is what I have on my Wrights in England

Richard was the fourth child of Francis and Ann Merriton Wright. He came to America in 1655, settling in Northumberland Co., VA. He met and married Ann Mottrom, who had been born in England in 1639. She was the daughter of Col. John Mottrom a wealthy landowner and member of the House of Burgesses. Richard was the administrator of Col. Mottrom's estate. In 1658, Richard Wright was granted 2200 acres of land on the west side of the Potomac River in Westmorland County, Virginia. From Col. Mottrom, he also received 963 acres for his marriage to Ann. There was another 500 acres received from a Thomas Brereton and 737 acres granted for transporting 15 persons to America. In 1661, he and his brother-in-law, Col. Nicholas Spencer, secured a patent to 1100 acres of land at Pascattaway on the Potomac River. Some of this land was later acquired by the Washington family and became part of George Washington's home, Mount Vernon. He served as Justice from 1657 until his death. His will was dated 16 August 1663 and proved in Northumberland Co., VA 10 Dec 1665 (Record Book 1658-66, Pg 104). He left his estate to his wife, Ann, and his children, Mottrom, Francis, and Ann. Five children may have been born to this marriage, James, Berkley, St. Leger, Beatrix, and Mary Codd. Children:

Subject: JOHN WILLIAM WRIGHT

We think that the first of our Wright group was John William Wright, he was the oldest child in a family that resided near Richmond, VA. John married Jennie (Jane) Douglass, the Wythe County marriage records show a John Right and Jean Douglass being married on 9 August 1808, in spite of their names both being spelled incorrectly, we would like to think that they are our John and Jennie. It is possible that George Douglass Wright their first child was born in VA; they went to Tennessee where they lived on Jennie's father's plantation. John was called back to VA. when his father died; after he had completed his business there, John started his journey back to TN. but never arrived. In the mean time, another son was born: John Angel Wright. About 1830 Jennie took her two sons to Howard County, Missouri, and in 1832 migrated on to Johnson County, MO. After arriving in MO. Jennie married a John Culley. George William Wright married Elizabeth Cull, and John Angel Wright married Elizabeth's sister Eliza; they had farms that were near to each other, and the children were like brothers and sisters.

The families consisted of:

George William Wright and Elizabeth

Laura McCown Wright

John Angelle Wright

Wayne Wilkerson Wright

Arthur Lee Wright

Mary Adah Wright

Robert Edward Wright

John Angel Wright and Eliza

Thomas Jefferson Wright

George William Wright

James Huff Wright

John Monroe Wright

Melville Bond Wright

Frank Thistle Wright

They lived in Johnson County, Missouri during and after the Civil War.

I would like to find the parents and family of John William Wright and Jennie(Jane) Douglass in Virginia or Tennessee, and would be happy to hear from the descendants of George Douglass Wright.

There are four genealogists representing the John Angel Wright family, so we have collected a lot of information on that branch of the family

If any of our story sounds familiar to you, and you will be able to connect us with the earlier Wright, we will be more than grateful.
