What is the Cost of Medication Errors? The
IOM (Institute of Medicine) reports:
770,000
patients are injured or die each year in hospitals from adverse drug events,
nationally costing as much as $1.56-$5.6 billion/year Price tag
excludes costs of injuries to patients & medication errors leading to
admissions or malpractice & litigation costs. Patients who
experienced medication errors were hospitalized an average of 8-12 days longer
than those who did not.
