An environment where the patient's exposure to latex is controlled. When caring for patients with latex allergies or in a high risk group, you should:
  • Prevent patient contact with latex – Do not enter room with products containing latex.  Refer to latex alternatives list in MIS
  • Wash hands before patient contact.
  • Identify patients with allergies by posting signs, entering allergy in MIS and having the patient wear an allergy band.
  • Place a 0.45 micron filter on IV tubing closest to patient
  • Schedule patient as first case for surgery/tests.
  • Have emergency medicine and equipment available in case of respiratory distress or anaphylaxis.
