A Dr. Red is any incident where you see smoke, see flame, or smell something burning in the hospital, ambulatory care area, or satellite facility. The term Dr. Red is used to alert staff of a possible fire emergency without causing panic among visitors and patients. Certain areas of the hospital and some ambulatory care sites are equipped with supplied oxygen.
Anytime you pass a situation where the integrity of the fire system has been altered or damaged, you should correct the problem or call Hospital Plant Operations, the satellite facility administrator, or Fire and Occupational Safety. These numbers are listed on the back of your R.A.C.E.R. card. Example of the types of problems to look for include:
